“Re-Writing the American Hero”: Blog 9

Array Today Gou Peng and I talked about movies, how, in his 13/14 year old mind, King Kong (1933 & 1976) is so cheesy, because the special effects are so bad. I also had to explain what stop animation is.He was also unswayed by the ideas 1) that story is more important than effects; and 2) that kids 15-30 years from now will be equally unimpressed with special effects of today. In his mind they are completely original.It’s interesting, telling, and humbling to have to defend your perspectives to a 13/14 year old who doesn’t care about before, or back in the day.

-ne In our last class, we were going over The Female Body to try to figure out what Atwood was saying. She then took this interpretation and presented it in this satirical format, making sarcastic references to her body and what its uses are, and making a parallel between commercialism and the exploitation of the female body.

-ne Another 9/11 . when 24000 die EVERYDAY from hunger thats around 11 , 9/11 tragedies EVERYDAY, right?

I guess coming from the Okanagan rafting in a slow river didn’t appeal to me and since it was sunny the last thing I thought would be cool would be to explore some caves and as much as I like watching ‘Friends’ and lounging about while food is served to me the idea of it playing in 8 out of 12 places in one block over and over again from open to close is a little bit terrifying, I don’t care hot you think Rachel is!!!

It brought us to the aspect of “traditional vs conventional”, forgoing the old Indian tradition and convert the ceremony into a more American-like, modern ceremony helped Tayo to finally come back to normal in the end.I thought it was pretty disturbing on the fact that it was Tayo’s good friends who he grew up together that want his blood in the end. It was a huge surprise, and make the somewhat depressed book even darker.Honestly, I’m really glad that I have the option of not having to write on this book for the third essay, because the confusion and questions I have, and fail to find a central theme for the book.
